New World School of the Arts Opera Ensemble

New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a “Florida Center of Excellence” in the visual and performing arts. The school, an educational partnership of Miami-Dade Public Schools, Miami Dade College, and the University of Florida, provides a comprehensive program of artistic training and academic development in preparation for careers in dance, music, and the visual arts. Through its partners it offers the high school diploma, Associate Arts degree, and the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees.

Led by Rodney Miller, the Opera Theatre Ensemble allows young singers who want to become professional performers the opportunity to challenge their skills at an accelerated rate in a carefully paced, nurturing environment. Many performance opportunities, especially with orchestra accompaniment, are a unique part of the training given at NWSA. The group presents a major opera production each year in addition to opera scenes, arias, lieder, and other song literature performances.

        2015 Music Scholarship Program

The Sunrise Symphonic Pops Orchestra (SSPO) offers live, professional quality concerts of Classical, Broadway, Pops, Jazz and Contemporary music at affordable prices to raise cultural arts awareness and to engage, entertain, educate and enhance the lives of the City of Sunrise residents and the community at large. In so doing, the SSPO has created a performance based Scholarship for college students who will be pursuing a career in music. This is a $1000.00 scholarship (payable directly to the college / university) for the most qualified student based on a live audition of those students selected from the application process.

The winner of the 2014 scholarship will be announced and introduced at our first concert in October.
